Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. They moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five and enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma was just six when she made the decision to become an actress. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford where she studied acting as well as singing. As early as age ten the actress took part in as the lead in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having eight consecutive auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. The film set records for the opening day sales as well as opening week-end take-offs and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British paper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Emma's performance received nominations and was awarded five awards for the movie.
